Get notified when an agent needs you.

When an agent has a question, needs permission or is done, your iPhone gets a notification that says which project it’s from and what it wants. Allow or Deny right from the notification, without opening the app. At your desk? In Desk mode, Hoptail waits a few seconds for you to answer at your Mac before it notifies you.

How approving from your iPhone works →

Every session. The real terminal, one tap away.

See every tmux session and window on your Mac: which agent is working, which is waiting, and for how long. Read a session as a chat, check what changed, and answer with a button, text or your voice. Need more? The real terminal is one tap away. You can even start a new session in any project folder.

Your Mac, your tailnet. No SSH.

Your iPhone talks to your own Mac over your tailnet, encrypted with TLS and pinned to your Mac’s certificate. No SSH keys on your phone, and the Hoptail program listens only on your Mac and your tailnet. We don’t store your code, terminal output or messages. Notification content is end-to-end encrypted, so our relay can pass it on but can’t read what it says.

What the relay stores →

Why not just use Remote Control?

Remote Control is Anthropic’s own way to continue a Claude Code session from the Claude app, and it can notify you too. Hoptail works at the level of your Mac: every agent running in tmux, the real terminal and your git changes, with Allow and Deny right in the notification.

Why I built Hoptail

I run Claude Code in tmux on a Mac mini at home, and I step away from it a lot. Too often I came back to find an agent that had stopped long ago to ask one question. A terminal on my phone over Tailscale worked, but it never told me when to open it, and typing on it was a chore. Hoptail is the app I wanted: the agent finds me, I answer with a tap, and the work goes on.

Questions.

What is Hoptail?

Hoptail is an iPhone app and a small program for your Mac. It watches the coding agents running in tmux on your Mac, starting with Claude Code, and notifies you when one has a question, needs permission or is done. You answer from the notification or the app, and the real terminal is one tap away.

How is it different from Claude Code Remote Control?

Remote Control continues a Claude Code session in the Claude app and can notify you. Hoptail works at the level of your Mac: it shows every tmux session and window, keeps the real terminal and your git changes one tap away, and puts Allow and Deny right in the notification. Full comparison →

Isn’t this just SSH and tmux?

tmux, yes: Hoptail is built on your tmux sessions, and the terminal is always one tap away. What it adds is what a phone terminal doesn’t do: it tells you when an agent needs you, shows which one and where, and lets you answer with a tap or your voice. No SSH setup, no keys on your phone.

Do you see my code?

No. Your sessions go from your Mac only to the iPhones you’ve paired. We don’t store your code, terminal output or messages, and our relay only passes on notifications whose content is end-to-end encrypted. Your coding agent still talks to its own provider as usual. Hoptail never sees your Claude login.

What does the relay store?

Your iPhone’s push token, encrypted, an opaque handle and a few timestamps. The full list is in the Privacy Policy.

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 15 or later, an iPhone on iOS 26 or later, Tailscale on both, Claude Code and Homebrew. Setup takes about five minutes: Set up your Mac.

Can I try it without a Mac?

Yes. Open the app and tap Try the Demo: it runs on sample data, and nothing you do in it leaves your iPhone.

Is it free?

Yes, during the beta. You’ll need your own Claude Code and Tailscale accounts.

Does Hoptail change Claude Code?

It adds hooks to Claude Code’s settings so it knows when an agent is waiting, keeps your own hooks and saves a backup. hoptail uninstall removes them. Claude Code itself isn’t modified.

Will I always get notified?

Not always: it’s a beta, and notifications can be late or missed. Don’t rely on Hoptail as the only way to watch work that matters.

Does it work with Codex or other agents?

Not yet. Today Hoptail works with Claude Code.

Is Hoptail made by Anthropic?

No. Hoptail is an independent app by a solo developer in Serbia. It works with the Claude Code you’ve installed and signed in to yourself.

What do I install on my Mac?

A small program called hoptail, installed with Homebrew. It’s signed and notarized by Apple, runs in the background, watches your tmux sessions and the agents in them, and listens only on your Mac and your tailnet. hoptail uninstall removes it.
